The Benefits of Carnatic Music
Helps build positive state of mind
Carnatic music, traditionally called “Karnataka Samgitam”, is an Indian treasure consisting of thousands of composers, ragas(tunes)and tala structures. Venkata Makhi an Indian poet and the musicologist of Carnatic music has formulated a structured pattern of studying the technical contents through the concept of “Melakartha system” i.e, classifying the main ragas. Geethams, varnams and keerthanas are some of the core products of these diverse ragas.
Introductory Course
The Introductory or the Preparatory Course in Carnatic Vocal first covers the basic aspects of pitching (matching the students’ voice to a particular scale of tune). The students are then taught to identify the position of the notes, merging their voice to the same and then starting their basic lessons from the syllabus. In this course the student also progresses the learning towards Middle Octaves(Madhasthyai), High Octaves(TaraSthyai). These combinations of basic lessons help the students develop the building blocks for concert based performances.
